The Early Days of Bass Fishing at Murray State College

Murray State College’s bass fishing program was born out of a passion for the sport and a desire to provide students with a unique extracurricular experience. The program’s inception was made possible by the college’s administration, which recognized the potential for bass fishing to attract students and provide a competitive edge in the college’s athletic department. Key factors that contributed to the program’s success: + Strong support from the college administration + Availability of resources and facilities + Growing interest in bass fishing among students The program’s early days were marked by a sense of excitement and uncertainty. The college’s first bass fishing team competed in the Junior College National Championship at Lake Eufaula, where they faced stiff competition from other top-ranked teams. Despite the challenges, the team’s performance was impressive, and they went on to win several local and regional tournaments.

The Program’s Rapid Growth

In the years following its inception, the bass fishing program at Murray State College experienced rapid growth.

Murray State duo Sam Sutter and Shaden Farley took home first place in the men’s team division, and Pakanli Brock claimed her solo title in the women’s division. β€œJust coming back and seeing your family in the crowd and dropping a big bag at weigh in at one of your home ponds is pretty big for me,” Sutter said. β€œIt still hasn’t completely set in yet, but knowing all of the hard work that I’ve put into this has an outcome, its really nice,” Brock added. Coach Owen says since winning the national championship, the team’s recruitment has really taken off, reeling in some top notch talent.

The team, led by Coach Mike Smith, has been preparing for this event for months, and their hard work is paying off.
