The History of Trout Day
Trout Day has a rich history dating back to 1939 when the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission first established the event. The primary goal of the event was to promote trout fishing in the state and to encourage the public to participate in the sport. Over the years, the event has evolved to include various activities and attractions that cater to a wide range of interests.
Early Years
In the early years, Trout Day was primarily focused on promoting trout fishing in the state. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission would organize fishing tournaments and provide educational materials to the public on how to catch trout. The program is designed to encourage anglers to catch and release golden rainbow trout, which are a prized species among trout anglers.
The Golden Rainbow Trout Tagging Program
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) has launched a new initiative to promote the conservation of golden rainbow trout in the state’s lakes and streams. The program, which is designed to encourage anglers to catch and release these prized fish, has been implemented in several lakes across the state.
How the Program Works
The program is simple yet effective. Anglers who catch a tagged golden rainbow trout will be instructed to clip the tag and submit it to the AGFC. In return, they will receive a free tackle pack, which includes a selection of lures and hooks that are suitable for catching golden rainbow trout. The program is open to all anglers, regardless of their experience level or location.
Those who submit tags will also be entered into a drawing for one of three guided fishing trips for four on the Little Red River near Heber Springs. “Sore Lip ‘Em All Guide Service has been really great at helping us introduce new trout anglers to the Little Red River,” Jackson said. “Anglers who may never visit one of Arkansas’s famous trout tailwaters are now getting exposed to this fantastic fishery, and it all started at one of our ponds.” Click to find more information about the golden rainbow trout winter fishing promotion, and find a list of locations where the trout are stocked in winter.
