The USAID has partnered with the Ghanaian government to launch the country’s first-ever responsible fishing awards. The initiative aims to promote sustainable fishing practices and encourage fishermen to adopt environmentally friendly methods.

Sustainable fishing practices: Fishermen who demonstrate sustainable fishing practices will be eligible for the awards. Environmental impact: Fishermen who have a positive impact on the environment will also be eligible for the awards.
The Feed the Future Ghana Fisheries Recovery Activity is a five-year program that aims to improve the livelihoods of small-scale fishers and their families in Ghana. The program is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is part of the Feed the Future initiative, which is a global effort to reduce poverty and hunger.

The Awards
The awards were organized under the USAID-supported Feed the Future Ghana Fisheries Recovery Activity. The United States is Ghana’s largest bilateral development partner. In 2023, bilateral assistance from USAID totalled over $140 million.
USAID is providing $24 million (over GH¢355 million) in multi-year investments to restore Ghana’s coastal fisheries and improve ocean conservation along the coast.
